Description
Cobblestone construction distinguishes this large, turn-of-thecentury
residence. One-and-one-half stories, the building is
capped by a hipped roof accented by hipped and gabled dormers.
The dormers have been re-shingled and perhaps re-glazed. The
windows in the lower story are outlined by stones placed to
resemble ffvoussoirs.tt Cast sills finish the lower edges of the
openings. They are glazed with casement windows banded by small
lights across the tops. The house, set far back from Wilson
Avenue, appears to be in good condition. No other details were
observed from the street.
No information was found concerning the origins of this house.
It was described in a real estate advertisement as a "massive
3600 square foot homeww from the turn-of-the-century. Based on
style, it is estimated to date from circa 1905. It is notable
for its stone construction, one of a handful of examples in
Upland, and as, presumably, a former grove house.
