Description
This two-story home reflects the influence of the Monterey
Revival style. A shingled hip roof caps the stucco structure.
The characteristic balcony spans the south two-thirds of the
facade, terminated by a raised two-story wing. Plain wood posts
and an iron railing enclose the space. Another balcony fronts a
pair of full height casement windows centered on the upper story
of the projecting wing. Below it a six-over-six double-hung sash
window occupies the lower story. A pair of double-hung sash
windows flank a broad brick chimney on the south half of the
first floor. The entry, illuminated by an iron and glass
lantern, is located next to the projecting wing. Additional
double-hung sash and casements open onto the balcony. Several
windows are framed by shutters. The house is largely unaltered
and in good condition. Mature trees dot the property, which is
connected to Euclid by a small cobblestone bridge.
The assessment record reveals that this house was built in 1929-
30 for Webster and Elinor Thomas. Thomas is reportedly one of
two brothers who owned the Thomas Winery in Cucamonga. The house
is significant as an example of the revival styled housing
associated with the building boom on Euclid Avenue in the late
1920s.
