Description
An attractive example of Craftsman styling, this is a one-and-ahalf story bungalow. Its side gable roof is accented by a shed roofed dormer containing four windows set beneath a shallow arch. Exposed rafters are visible in the eaves. Another broad arch is described by the beam which spans the facade-wide porch. Stone piers support the ends of the arch while tapered posts on stone pedestals frame a central bay. Low stone walls enclose the porch space; stone was also used for the building foundation and a central chimney. Medium clapboard sheathes the structure. A central entrance is flanked by windows of differing proportions. With the exception of a partial enclosure of the porch, the bungalow appears intact. It is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: "198"West Tenth, a one-and-half story dwelling, was shown at this location on the 1912 Sanborn, indicating the construction of this house prior to that time. In 1912-13, the directories listed Wilbert Dundas as residing on the south side of 10th near Euclid. Dundas was assessed for this property beginning in 1910, before which it was owned by the subdividers Walline, Atwood, and Leeke. When recording of improvement assessments resume in 1915, Dundas was assessed $800 for the building on the lot. In the 1912-13 directory Dundasl place of employment was Wllams and Dundas; in 1914 he was the proprietor of the Upland Planing Mill. Subsequent owners of the property included Jessie M. Lewis (1916), James and Alnetta ~ewis (1919) and H.G. smith (1924).
