Description
The Craftsman vocabulary is effectively utilized in the design of this one-story bungalow. An extremely low-pitched side gable roof tops the clapboarded structure. Centered over the facade, a gablet features a shaped beam in the apex and vertical venting on its face. Rafters punctuate the eaveline. Cobblestone pillars topped by paired and tripled posts divide the facade into three bays. The ports have "capitalsu composed of single and intersecting cross beams. ~ehind the pedestals and posts, a porch spans the facade, its dimensions delineated by a horizontal wood railing. A paneled and glazed door, flanked by broad windows with band of six lights across their top sections, open off the porch. Extended lintels top the apertures. Other notable features include a wood-framed screen door, a cobblestone foundation and a cobblestone chimney on the east elevation. Unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This bungalow was probably built by ~osiah Dundas, who acquired the property from the subdividers Walline, Atwood, and Leeke in 1912-13, or by Henry Bendixon, who was the owner in 1915 when a $500 improvement was assessed. Phoebe J. Touscher was the next owner (1914-18), followed by T.J. and Jennie K. Cromer (1919).
