Description
This one-story structure is a representative example of the small Craftsman bungalows found in Upland. Erected on a cobblestone foundation, the clapboarded bungalow is trimmed with endboards. A side-gabled roof with extended eaves, exposed rafters and plain bargeboards tops the structure. Tapered posts on stone pedestals spanned by cross beams support a front gable which projects over an offset porch. Fenestration is asymmetrically arranged and includes pairs of double-hung sash windows to both sides of the entry. Centered in the porch, the entry is approached by four stairs flanked by low stone walls. Unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. r RESEARCH NOTES: Walline, Atwood, and Leeke, subdividers of much of the property immediately west of Euclid in this vicinity, were the owners of this lot in 1913 when no assessment amounts were recorded. In 1914 the assessed owner was Eva J. Knowles and an improvement assessment of $100 was noted. That amount increased to $300 the following year, probably indicating the completion of construction.
