Description
The view of this one-story Craftsman bungalow is somewhat obscured by greenery. It appears that a gabled roof, set parallel to the street, caps the dwelling. Wood posts on cobblestone pedestals support a front gable which projects over a porch offset to the north of the facade. Roof details include extended eaves, cross beams, and exposed rafters. A door with four lights in its upper section opens onto the porch. The bungalow is sheathed with clapboard except for the gable face, which is covered with vertical slats in the apex and shingles below. No alterations were observed, and the bungalow appears to be in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The first improvement on this lot was $275 assessed to Cornelia Rainwater in 1915. In the previous year, Miles Rainwater had been taxed, and according to the 1914 directory, lived on Laurel Avenue. The amount of the improvement assessment rose to $400 in 1921, when Nicholas & Elizabeth Taylor acquired the property from Cornelia Rainwater.
