Description

A horizontal emphasis to the design of this one-story Craftsman bungalow is keynoted by a low-pitched gabled roof set parallel to the street. Topped by an early flat extension of the roof, a porch on the south half of the facade is defined by two wood posts on stepped brick piers. A low brick wall enclosed the space, To the north, a broadly proportioned tripartite window is capped by an extended lintel. Other notable features include a brick chimney on the south elevation, exposed rafters in the extended eaves, and a gablet offset to the south, The bungalow is clad with wood shingles and is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This property remained in the hands of W.T. Leeke, one of the subdividers until 1912. W.H. Kovel was assessed in 1913 when no improvement amounts were recorded, although the 1912 Sanborn indicates that the house had been built by that year. The improvement assessment was $175 in 1914 when the owner was Minnie A. Billington. It rose to $400 in 1915, indicating, perhaps, that Billington had enlarged the house.
