Description
The use of cobblestone enlivens the design of this one-story Craftsman bungalow. Its cross gabled roof is low-pitched and characterized by exposed rafters and beams. The front gable projects over a centrally located porch, while the side gable covers the main volume of the building. Horizontal slats ventilate the gable end. Tapered wood posts resting on a cobblestone wall enclose the porch. There are four openings on the facade, an off-centered door, and three double-hung sash windows, two of which have larger lower sashes. The clapboarded structure is edged with endboards and rests on a cobblestone foundation. Unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This is another of the properties improved by Hiram and Mary Waterman. An $850 improvement appeared in 1923; the Watermans had purchased the property in 1921. Waterman, listed as an auto mechanic in the 1924 directory, was associated with the Waterman Garage on Euclid Avenue. The directory listed the Watermanst home address as 2207 Laurel, which may or may not have been the Ontario number for this house.
