Description
This one-story dwelling is typical of the turn of the century. A truncated, bellcast, hipped roof tops the building, varied by a closed front gable over-the west bay of the facade. fishscale shingles face the gable end while narrow clapboards sheathes the principal volume. Boxed eaves and a friezeboard detail the roof line. A recessed porch, defined by a platform raised one step above the ground and a pair of slender Tuscan columns, occupies the east section of the facade. It contains two entries set perpendicular to each other and a double-hung sash window. A similar window is centered in the west bay; others are disposed singly around the exterior of the building. Substantially unaltered, the house is in fair condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Information about the origins of this house is sketchy. Most likely the house dates to 1905-06, when lot splits resulted in the delineation of the present parcel. D.C. Mayers was the assessed owner in 1906. He was followed by Francis G. Tucker (1907-08), Justus Wright (1909), Vera Colborn (1910), E.T. Miner (1911-28), and T.B. and Fannie A. Horn (from 1929). In 1912-13 the directories included Ewe11 T. Minor, a salesman at Henry Klindt, at this location. No other directory references were located.
