Description

A single gabled roof set perpendicular to the street covers this one-and-one-half-story Craftsman residence. A central shed dormer, extended eaves, triangular brackets, and exposed rafters characterize the roof treatment. Stout tapered posts set on a cobblestone wall define a front porch recessed across the facade. The off-center entry contains a wood door pierced by channels of beveled glass. A double-hung sash opening is located to the left (south) while a fixed pane opening appears to the right. Sheathed in wide clapboard, the bungalow may have been converted into multiple units, as evidenced by the addition of an exterior staircase on the north. The building is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record indicated that there was no improvement on this lot by 1941. Clearly the house pre-dates that period. Perhaps it was moved to the site. J.J. Atwood, the subdivider, was listed as the owner until 1933. A building permit was taken out by Atwood, a lemon grower, in January 1913 for a $3500 dwelling on West Laurel near 10 th [sic].
