Description
The design of this one-story, turn-of-the-century residence is enlivened by its detailing. A hipped roof caps the clapboarded structure. Centered over the facade a gabled dormer contains a pair of latticed vents separated and topped by ornamental stickwork. Rounded rafter tails punctuate the roofline. Spanning the entire facade and a portion of the east elevation, a recessed porch is enclosed by posts and a stick railing. Decorative triangular brackets are attached to the tops of the posts. The entry is located in the west bay of the facade and consists of a paneled and glazed door. Other openings around the exterior are widely spaced, double-hung sash windows. The house sits on a cobblestone foundation at the end of an ample setback. It is unaltered and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES : This house probably dates to circa 1905, when lot splits that more or less created the present configuration apparently took place. The assessed owners between 1906 and 1911 were Mrs. L. Colborn, followed by M.R. Colborn. M.R. Colborn appeared in the 1909-10 directory on the south side of E (Arrow); he was a fruit packer. In 1912 Jay Rogers, a carpenter, and Arta Rogers assumed title.
