Description
Although this Craftsman bungalow retains some characteristic elements, remodeling during the past few months has reduced its historic integrity. The building has a cross gable roof; exposed rafters are visible beneath the side gable but have been removed from the eaves of the front gable. Recently re-sided, the building's original narrow clapboards have been replaced with wider boards. Beneath the front gable, a porch spans the facade. Cobblestone bases and tapered posts are located at each end, with a new support added in the center. With the exception of the entry, a glazed door offset to the west, most of the fenestration has been altered. A tripartite window and latticed vent has been eliminated from the gable face entirely, and pairs of aluminum framed sash windows with snap-on mullions have been substituted for the full-height casements which used to flank the entry. Beneath the side gable in the rear of the west elevation, a secondary entry, itself probably an alteration, is located. The bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This may be a third house on this block which belonged to a member of the Colborn family. Both Clyde Colborn and George Colborn's names appear in the records. George apparently lived next door; Clyde was a fruit picker or packer whose address in 1916-17 was listed as "490."
