Description
An unusual combination of features makes this two-story residence interesting despite substantial alterations. According to the Sanborn, the building was originally one-and-one-half stories. Now a full second floor is capped by a side gable with a shallow front gable spanning the facade. The second floor contains two doors, each flanked by full height double-hung sash windows, which open onto a balcony. An extension of the primary gable shades the space, and a stickwork railing encloses it. Below a pent roof, the lower story contains three bays. The entry is recessed in the central and smallest bay. A broad, three-sided bay occupies the north bay while a tripartite window with a pointed arch head is centered in the south bay. An exterior staircase runs up the south elevation. Sheathed in narrow clapboard, the building, which may be a multi-family residence, is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The Sanborns indicate that an improvement appeared in this location between 1907 and 1912 when it was part of a larger property owned by the Seichert family. Otto Seichert, a cement worker, lived here in 1912-13, probably moving from the house next door to the south. Etta C, Harmon, a widow, was the owner/resident in 1919-20. Amos T. Chambers, who was an auto mechanic, and his wife Annette succeeded Mrs. Chambers.
