Description
This charming example of a one-story, turn-of-the-century residence is extremely well preserved. A slightly bellcast hipped roof crowns the structure, its proportions and pitch echoed by a centered, hipped dormer. Latticed vents flank a louvered opening in the dormer. Boxed eaves and a plain friezeboard surmount the clapboard exterior. Turned posts with decorative sawn brackets and a stick railing define a three-bay porch which is recessed across the facade. A paneled and glazed door is offset to the east in the central bay while double-hung sash windows occupy the side bays. Intact and in good condition, the house sits on a cobblestone foundation behind a neatly tended lawn. RESEARCH NOTES : This lot was apparently created in 1905-06. For the next six years the property was owned by the Atwood and Blakeslee Lumber Company. In 1912 George Dundas, the manager of the Fruit Growers Association, bought the house and moved in. By 1914 Dundas had moved to San Antonio near 17th. Judging on the basis of style, the house appears to date to the Atwood-Blakeslee ownership.
