Description
Like many bungalows of the 1920s and 1930s, and regardless of style, this one-story dwelling is organized into three facade bays. What identifies this house as Spanish is its tiled roof of front and side gables, its stucco siding, and its asymmetrical massing. The central bay contains the entry, slightly recessed beneath a corbeled frieze and denticulated cornice. A broadly proportioned band of casement windows occupies the south bay while a smaller casement cluster is set behind trees in the north bay. The south elevation is anchored by a stucco chimney which rises a couple of feet above the rooflines. With the minor exception of aluminum awnings, no alterations to this wellmaintained bungalow were observed. RESEARCH NOTES: A $60 improvement assessment was recorded on this property in the 1920s, perhaps indicating the presence of a small cottage or an outbuilding of some sort. The property was under the same ownership, W.W. and Glenn A. Mather, when a $1230 assessment was recorded in 1931. According to the 1934 directory Wiley Mather, a teacher, and his wife Glen lived at this address.
