Description
This two-story "farmhouse" is substantially altered, but remnants of its original appearance remain. Primarily, the second story front gabled wing retains its historic features, including alternating courses of conventional and sawtooth shingling in the gable end, a lunette vent, and a pair of very tall and narrow double hung sash windows. A dormer on the west side of this wing also may be original. However, few clues of the original design can be found in the stuccoed lower story. To the rear of the front gable, a two-story side-gabled wing may or may not be original. A shed roofed extension on the east is an addition. The upper story of the house in clad in horizontal siding. The house is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record for this parcel indicates the owners following subdivision were: B.S. and L. Byers (1907-09), B.S. Byers (1910-13), O.W. Kankel (1915), J.H. Doner (1916-17), and Elizabeth Durig (1918). Although the first improvement was assessed in 1918, the architectural character of the original portion of the house implies an earlier date or an anachronistic design.
