Description
This one-story commercial building is substantially altered like most of its neighbors. The parapet has been stuccoed and is used for signage. A hint of the 1950s moderne characterizes the storefront, which is spanned by a horizontal canopy. The entry is offset and slightly recessed, with display windows angled to meet it. Brick faces the bulkhead. A 1950 permit was located for the storefront. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record suggests that the building was erected in 1929, although the Sanborns indicate an earlier building at the site. In 1907, 1912, and 1928, this was the location of a onestory masonry building which was apparently part of the same building as 167 to the south. A butcher occupied the premises in 1907 and 1912 and a confectionery in 1928. The address was 171. Jesse and Blanche Riddle were the proprietors of the confectionery.
