Description
Unlike many of its neighbors this one-story commercial building retains some of its original architectural features. Of masonry construction the building is faced with light colored brick. Darker brick outlines the parapet, a panel within the parapet, the piers, and the single storefront. New siding and glazing has altered the storefront. Only 16 feet across, the building forms a contiguous streetfront with the structure to the south. According to building department records the building to the north was demolished in 1958, leaving an open space. RESEARCH NOTES : A one-story brick building was mapped on this site as early as 1907. It was used as a barber shop for much of its history. For several years beginning in 1912, the proprietor was Edward B. Dickerman. Perry 0. Long, barber, was listed at this address in 1924; he shared the space with Lorin E. Woodruff, who sold cigars. It is unclear whether the present building is the one erected pre-1907; a circa 1913 photograph illustrates a one-story brick building with an elaborate parapet identical to the three buildings to the south.
