Description

The L-shape of this turn-of-the-century cottage is derived from an intersecting gabled roof. The clapboarded exterior is neatly detailed with a plain friezeboard, boxed cornice, and endboards. A fixed sash window with a header is centered under a circular vent that pierces the facade of the front facing gable. Nestled into the corner of the L, to the south of the gable wing, a porch has been screened. Brackets with a sawn circular motif are still visible atop the porch posts. Otherwise largely unaltered, the cottage is in fair condition. RESEARCH NOTE8 : The assessment record suggests that this house was built in 1895- 96 by Frank Mason. In 1897 the assessed owner became Harriet Raimheld, who apparently lived in the house for at least twenty years. Bertha Watson, a teacher at the grammar school, resided in the house in 1934, according to the directory.
