Description
Similar, although not identical, to its neighbor on the north, 509 Euclid is a one-story front-gabled Craftsman-influenced bungalow with a screened-in porch. A tripartite opening window - the outer lights of which are diamond-paned and the center vented - sits in the center of the gable. Abbreviated horizontal cornice returns of the gable end form small, decorative hipped roof shapes. A pent hipped roof caps the attached porch. Boxed eaves and endboard trim this overlap-sided cottage, which sits on a cement brick foundation. In fairly good condition, the bungalow exhibits the massing, if not the detailing, of its Craftsman neighbors. RESEARCH NOTES: This property passed from subdivider G.B. West to John H. Rich in 1909-10. Rich, a rancher, and his wife Caroline, probably erected the house c. 1909; they were living there as late as 1919-20, according to the directories. H.M. Tuttle was the next owner. The former address of this house was w501,11 per the 1912 Sanborn.
