Description
This two-story brick home is designed in an English Revival style. Fairly steep front and side gables cap the structure. A large front gable with a tall and narrow, round-headed vent in its peak occupies the south half of the facade. Below it a broad fixed window is flanked by multi-paned casements. The entry is located within an archway set below another, smaller front gable. Courses of soldier bricks are used to define architectural elements such as the gable face, foundation, and arch. Raised brick sills adorn the windows. Although this style is fairly common around Southern California, it is unusual in Upland. This example appears to be intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Miles and Alice Harnly or Harnsley built this house in 1930-31. The 1931 directory indicates that their address, however, was at 858 N. Euclid.
