Description
Turn-of-the-century styling characterizes this one-story residence. Narrow clapboards sheathe the structure, whose hipped roof has been tiled. An extension of the roof projects at a lower pitch to cover the L-shaped porch on the southern corner of the building. Tuscan columns stand on a clapboarded porch wall to support the roof, their locations marked by clusters of three brackets in the porch roof soffit. The entry is more or less centered on the facade, in the northern bay of the porch. Next to it, the southeast corner of the building is configured as a three-sided bay. North of the entry, the north bay of the facade is raised, capped by a front gable, and contains a window with a leaded glass transom. Other than the roofing material and a cement block and iron fence, the house retains its turn-of-thecentury appearance. It is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The tax record is unusually clear with regards to this property. There was no improvement assessed in 1901; $200 was taxed in 1903, at which time it was owned by Michael P. Beckley. From 1905 to 1913 John L. Harris was assessed. C.L. McKeen assumed title in 1914. J.Q. Harris and Miss E.M. Harris resided on the west side of Second, 5th house north of F Street, in the 1909 directory. In 1911, J.Q. Harris and Mildred Harris lived at 665. Charles S., wife Mary, and Harriet McKeen were listed in 1919-20. McKeen was in real estate.
