Description
This one-and-two-story Spanish Colonial Revival residence occupies a highly visible lot at the northeast corner of Euclid and Foothill. Tiled front and side gables and sheds top the structure, which is sheathed in stucco. It has an L-shaped facade, with a one-story wing lined on the south by a three bay arcade. The entry is located at the south end of the arcaded space. Windows are predominantly casement in type and grouped in two's and three's. An exception is the large, arched window facing Euclid from the end of the one-story wing. Details include diamond patterned vents piercing the gable ends, impost moldings, and simple raised lintels and sills. With the minor exception of aluminum awnings, this attractive example of Spanish styling is unaltered. It is in fairly good condition and anchors one end of an intact block of revival homes. RESEARCH NOTES: Ernest H. and Ruth Gibson bought this lot from the subdivider O.W. Kankell and improved it in 1929-30. Gibson was an orange grower. The former address of this house was "1112."
