Description
This one-story English residence has a side gable roof with front gables defining the north and south ends of the three bay facade. The side bays are identical, containing broad windows with aluminum awnings and tall vents in the gable ends. A barrel vault with a rounded parapet covers the central bay which contains the entrance. Brick facing bands the lower facade of the stuccoed building. The property is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This house was pictured in the fiftieth anniversary edition of the Daily Rewort in 1932. It was built in 1928-29 and was the home of Eugene and Dorothy Grier. According to long-time Upland residents, Grier was mayor of Upland in 1916-18 and Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors in 1932; his business was real estate (Grier and Redmon in the 1931 directory). Mrs. Grier ran a dress shop. Formerly this property was known as "1184."
