Description

Half-timbering in the gable end indicates a Tudor Revival reference in the design of this one-and-one-half story house. Stuccoed, the building is capped by an L-shaped gable roof. A shingled, shed-roofed dormer is centered over the side-gabled, long leg of the "L." Two pairs of eight light casements are located on this wing. The entry, sited perpendicularly to the street, faces a path which runs in front of the casements. The door enters the projecting, front-gabled wing, which also contains a band of casements. Other details include a tall vent witki a triangular head in the front gable face, a brick chimney on the north elevation, and exposed rafters in the dormer. Unaltered, the house is in good condition. It is the northern anchor of an intact block of revival styled homes. RESEARCH NOTES : This house was built for Lean and Georgia Durham in 1930-31. Durham, active in local politics and with the Presbyterian Church, was a rancher.
