Description
Set behind a neatly manicured lawn and garden this is a one-story Tudor Revival residence. The stuccoed building is capped by a steeply pitched, L-shaped gable roof. At the north end of the facade the front gable contains a tall vent with a triangular head. Next to it the offset entry bay is sheathed in brick and topped by another front gable. A round-headed door is outlined by three courses of soldier bricks. Windows to either side of this bay a shaded by aluminum awnings. Near the ridgeline of the side gables, a double chimney emerges from the roof. Except for the awnings no alterations were noted. The property is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This house was built by D.E. Myers in 1930. A fruit shipper, he lived on Foothill while the house was under construction. Myers owned a grove south of Archibald in Ontario. Subsequent owners of the property were Clara and Fred Price. Mrs. Price was the first woman to register to vote in Upland and received the "Diamond Liln award. She played piano at local social clubs. Mr. Price was an assemblyman. He established the Price Foundation which still funds charitable causes in the West End communities (Source: Public Forum July 21, 1990).
