Description
The Craftsman styling of this one-story bungalow has been reduced to its bare essentials. The facade is set beneath a single, medium-pitched, front gable which has a latticed vent in its apex. Clapboards face the remainder of the gable end and the body of the house. Recessed beneath the gable, a three-bay porch spans the facade. Plain wood posts mark the bay divisions. An iron railing has been added to the porch. Flanked by broadly proportioned double-hung sash windows, the entry is centered. Other than the porch railing and brick pedestals to either side of the two stairs rising to the porch, the bungalow appears unaltered and well-maintained. RESEARCH NOTES: This house appears on the 1912 Sanborn, labeled "670." At the time, it was owned by S.E. Spicer, who had purchased it in 1910 from Leonard Puehler. An almost identical house next door was also shown on the Sanborn and sat on property purchased from Puehler in 1910. This bungalow was probably built by Spicer or Puehler; since Spicer was a building contractor the former is more likely. Possible residents at this location include Anna Puehler (widow of Stephen), shown at "672" in 1917 and David Niswander with Emma Niswander, student, at 1166211 in 1919-20. Niswander was the assessed owner beginning in 1919.
