Description
Trees screen this two-story Spanish residence from the street. Asymmetrically composed, the stuccoed structure is topped by a tiled hipped and gabled roof. At the north end of the facade a porte cochere cuts through the building, defined by a flattened arch opening. Next to it, the entry is recessed within a shedroofed enclosure. Windows with both casement and fixed sash are located above each of these openings and in both stories of the south bay. In good condition, the house appears largely unaltered. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record shows this property changing hands four times in the four years from 1929 to 1932. Mary Williamson, otherwise known as "Dr. Maryvv was the owner of an empty parcel in 1929. George and Lillian Laidlaw purchased it from her that year and were also assessed for no improvement when the 1930 assessments were recorded. In 1931 a $900 improvement was assessed to Peter Peterson, whose location in the 1931 directory was 14th St. at the southeast corner of Euclid. Then, in 1932 an $1850 improvement was noted and Louise Guy was the owner. Harry Guy, her husband, was the owner of the Upland News.
