Description
This two-storv Colonial influenced house has an unusual design. Of brick cons%ruction, the house is capped by a gabled roof. A front gabled wing on the north half of the facade contains two pairs of casements which open onto an iron-railed balcony on the piano nobile or second story. Below it another pair of casements open onto the garden. The entry is located at the head of an L-shaped flight of stairs at the south end of this wing. A stepped stair wall is contiguous with the facade wall. Another wing is recessed and extends to the south under a side gable roof. Details include a bulls-eye vent in the gable ends, shutters on some windows, and panel wood window surrounds. The brick has been sandblasted but the house is in good condition. It is sited within a landscaped garden bordered by an iron fence. REBEARCH NOTES: On the basis of style this house is estimated to have been built around 1935 for the W.H.S. Black family of Chicago.
