Description

Traces of the Colonial and Tudor Revival styles appear in this one-story bungalow. Set beneath a side gable roof of medium pitch, the building is faced with horizontal siding finished with endboards. The central entry is announced by a front gable with a decoration of half-timbering in its end. Four steps lead up to the entry, which is flanked by the posts which support the gable. Equidistant from the door on either side, pairs of four-over-one double-hung sash windows are adorned with shutters. Enhanced by its landscaping, the building is in good condition and appears intact. RESEARCH NOTES: This is apparently the second house to be built on this property. The 1912 and 1928 Sanborns show a building with a different footprint; residents confirm that the former house was moved when the current one was constructed. Judging by the style, that happened sometime during the ownership of John W. McConkay and his wife Lillie. McConkay was listed as an electrician, then as an installer with the Ontario and Upland Telephone Company.
