Description

A hipped roof with a front gable over the left (north) facade bay identifies this one-story, turn-of-the-century cottage. The building is faced with narrow horizontal siding while the gable end is partially vertically sided. Detailing includes enclosed soffits, friezeboards and endboards. The porch, fronting the facade right of the raised bay, has been enclosed with windows. A glazed entry with a sidelight leads into the former porch. Aluminum awnings have been added to other openings. A fence shields much of the remainder of the residence from view. It is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The tax records and Sanborn maps clearly indicate that this property was unimproved until 1927 when John L. Short, a telegraph operator at the Santa Fe Station, and his wife Alice J., owned and lived at this address. However, the house appears to pre-date this time and is assumed to have been moved to the site - unless the Shorts simply preferred an anachronistic design.
