Description

This one-and-one-half-story dwelling merges Craftsman era and earlier characteristics. The structure is capped by a front facing gabled roof detailed with a shaped bargeboard. Resting on a stone foundation, the structure is fronted by an attached porch. Four wood posts support the hipped porch roof. Above this roof, a vent pierces the gable face. Fenestration is asymmetrically arranged under the porch with an off-centered door flanked by two double-hung sash windows. The only major alteration appears to the asphalt shingle cladding. The structure in fair condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Apparently this house was erected as a rental property. It was built by 1912 when the Sanborn first illustrated it. Edward A. Bowen, who lived at 406 N. Euclid, had owned the property since 1905-06. Since the previous owners were A.G. Allen (1903-05), a large landholder, and the subdividers, it is assumed that the house was built by Bowen. According to the Historic Houses and Sites file, one J. Christian Rufus lived there in 1914.
