Description

Dense shrubbery hides most of this one-story residence from view. While the roof configuration cannot be discerned, a shingled dormer can be seen. Below it, a porch is recessed. Tuscan columns support the porch roof. Shiplap sides the structure, which has a brick foundation. A three-sided bay fenestrated with double-hung sash windows appears to occupy the south portion of the facade. The fenestration is multi-light casement. No other features could be observed. The building is in somewhat deteriorated condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Since this house is difficult to see, stylistic clues as to its origin are scarce. The documentary evidence indicates that a $500 improvement was assessed for the first time in 1924 when the owners were Amos R. and Portia R. Colborn. The Sanborns confirm this time period; no building was on the lot in 1912; this house is shown in 1928. Colborn was the proprietor of the Colborn Electric Shop at 220 Second Avenue. According to an oral history on file at the Upland Library (Bice), this house was moved to this location.
