Description
Simplicity is the keynote of this one-and one-half-story turn-of-the- century cottage. A front facing gabled roof with a boxed cornice caps the narrowly clapboarded structure. A shed roof covers a projecting porch which spans the facade. The porch is defined by three slender wood posts and a solid clapboard balustrade with a sided pier anchoring the south end. The fenestration is just slightly asymmetrical. A one-over-one double-hung sash window fills the center of the gable face. In the porch, identical windows are located unequal distances from each side of a centered door. Although the porch supports may have been modified, the cottage is largely unaltered and in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This house was probably built by Agnes Jackson, who acquired the property from A.G. Allen in 1905-06. She lived there at least one year, 1909-10, according to the directories. Probably she moved when she married; the assessed owner becomes Agnes Jackson Chaffee in 1913.
